We know the car insurance market. Our Experts carry out research to keep tabs on who's cheap for car insurance. But the fact is that the cheapest insurer for a lady driver isn't necessarily the cheapest for a mature driver or a young driver.
So our Experts have carried out research for eight different categories of driver. Decide which category best describes you, click on it, and you'll see the Insurance Selections for you. You can then get online quotes from the Insurers.
Each insurer has been chosen because we've found they consistently provide cheap quotations for that type of driver.

We advise all our visitors to get at least 3 quotes from our Insurance Selections, including at least one from one of the specialised car insurance brokers we've Selected.
Follow our Insurance Selections and you're sure to make a big saving .

16 Top Tips
for Cheaper Car Insurance
- Keep your car garaged at night. Insurers know that if your car remains on the road at night it's much more vulnerable to theft and damage. If you don't have a garage, if possible, keep it on your drive.
- Update your mileage estimate each year. If you've changed your job or moved home you may have shorter commuting journeys. If so, your mileage and therefore your premiums, may be less.
- Your premium will be influenced by your occupation. Journalists, landlords, and professional footballers but to name but a few, all pay more! Consider a job that's a bit more boring! Civil servants and Accountants pay less!
- Get married! It could save money on your premiums - particularly if you're male and under 30.
- Car Insurance will be expensive if you're under 25. So add an experienced driver with a good riving record onto your policy as a named driver. But don't let him be too old! - premiums start rising again for drivers aged over 60!
- Consider paying a higher excess. The average excess is around £100 but if you're prepared to increase you excess, your premium will fall significantly.
- If your car isn't worth much, consider just 3 rd Party cover. Find out how much you'd save. Get quotes for 3 rd Party and fully Comprehensive Insurance and weigh up the savings.
- Are you under 21? Then consider "pay as you go" insurance. Norwich Union has a pay as you go insurance policy, which charges you only for the miles you drive. The system works through a GPS Positioning System which is fitted to your car for a one off fee (currently £199). The GPS black box tells Norwich Union how many miles the car's been driven and they send you a monthly invoice for your insurance.
- Are you a young or inexperienced driver? Then improve your driving technique by taking some more driving lessons. Young drivers can cut their insurance premiums by as much as 35% by taking Pass Plus lessons. Pass Plus gives you extra training for driving in rush hour traffic and motorway and night driving. Lessons usually cost between £15 and £30 per hour. (www.passplus.org.uk). Your premium can also reduced if you've taken a course with the Institute of Advanced Motorists (www.iam.org.uk).
- Treating yourself to a new car or a Second Hand Cars? Check out the insurance group before you buy. All cars are categorised into one of 20 insurance groups with 1 being the cheapest and 20 the most expensive. If you're going to have difficulty affording the insurance premiums, then chose a car that's in a lower group.
- Performance and high spec cars attract thieves and are more expensive to repair - so it's not surprising that they cost more to insure. Consider something with less bhp!
- We know it's hard, but try not to exceed the speed limits! Most insurers will ignore one fixed penalty fine but get more, and they'll hit you in your pocket!
- Have you built up 4 or more years no claims discount? Take a tip pay the extra and get the discount protected.
- Consider fitting a satellite navigation system. Some insurers have noticed that satellite navigation cuts the accident rate by helping drivers concentrate on the road. Insurers may soon reducing premiums if you have one fitted.
- Get an alarm or engine immobiliser fitted. Many insurers will give you a discount of between 5-8%.
- If you've got more than one car in the home, some insurers will give a discount for insuring them all on one policy.
